Fox Announces 'Gambit' Starring Channing Tatum For 2016

As a part of a larger number of release dates on Fox's future tentpole release schedule unveiled this evening, the studio has announced that the Channing Tatum-starring X-Men spin-off, Gambitwill see an October 7, 2016 release.

The film, featuring the X-Men's kinetic card-wielding cajun, has no other cast or crew attached beyond Tatum and Robocop remake writer Joshua Zetumer. It will be released the same year as the other X-Men spin-off, Deadpool, which stars Ryan Reynolds and is set to be directed by Tim Miller. Deadpool, in turn, releases on February 12, 2016. X-Men: Apocalypse is also scheduled for next year, with a May 27, 2016 bow.

As far back as May of last year, Tatum has been talking about Gambit and his desire to play the character, as he told GQ at one point:
[Gambit was] the only superhero I really followed.... He was the most real to me: smoking, drinking, women-loving, thief. He just looked cool to me. I've always loved him. And obviously he's Cajun...
Fox also announced that the scheduled sequel to Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot will be moved up from July 14, 2017 to June 2, 2017.

There's still no further word on the X-Force film that Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) is attached to.

For those interested in seeing a really great Channing Tatum performance currently in theaters, I highly urge you check out Foxcatcher if the opportunity arises.
