News Round-up: Star Wars Episode VII Gets A New Title, The Hobbit Has A New Trailer, Hateful Eight Cast Finalized

Lots of new things today for a couple of big trilogy-based franchises. Let's dig in briefly.

Star Wars

On the Star Wars front, the hereofore untitled Episode VII FINALLY has a title and its Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Not great, Bob. But of interest here is that it looks like Disney is dropping the Episode VII moniker altogether. The cynical side of me figures that means we'll be seeing about 20 future Star Wars installments instead, and that part of me is probably right.

Hasn't The Force been awake for six movies now?

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

And here's a new trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, remember when we thought these movies might be about Bilbo? Oh what salad days those were...

The Hateful Eight

The Weinstein Company today announced the cast for the newest Quentin Tarantino film: The Hateful Eight, a movie that almost didn't happen due to early script leaks. As it stands, his cast is now: Samuel L. Jackson as Major Marquis Warren, Kurt Russell as John “The Hangman” Ruth, Jennifer Jason Leigh as Daisy Domergue, Walton Goggins (Justified) as Chris Mannix, Demian Bichir as Bob, Tim Roth as Oswaldo Mobray, Michael Madsen as Joe Gage and Bruce Dern as General Sanford Smithers. Channing Tatum has also signed on for an unspecified role. The movie begins filming in Early 2015.
