Having apparently not learned its lesson with the dreadful Gracepoint, FOX's American iteration of Broadchurch, they've now set their sights on another critically acclaimed British drama: the Idris Elba starring Luther.
Elba, who along with series creator Neil Cross, will be producing an American remake of the series for the network, which centers on John Luther, a detective dedicated to solving crimes who finds his commitment both a blessing and a curse.
FOX has purchased a pilot commitment for this new version, and Cross will pen the script for this initial episode. There's currently no word as to whether or not Elba will once again take on the role of Luther ala David Tennant in Gracepoint.
Luther ran for three seasons on the BBC and is well worth watching if you have a Netflix account. For his part, the series netted Elba three Emmy nominations.
This won't be the first time that the series has spawned a remake, as Russia already has its own iteration of Luther entitled Klim, to air in 2015.
But let's ask the bottom line question here: has an American remake of a British series (The Office aside) ever been a worthwhile proposition? I await your answers.
