DC February 2015 Solicits: Master Men And Some Other Stuff...

This week DC released its full February 2015 solicitations, and as usual, we went through and found the items of note to keep in the back of your mind if you decide you really want to dig into some DC Comics that month. Let's jump in and see what might be worth your money and attention...(also check out the full solicits at Newsarama or wherever you'd like)

1. Master Men Unites Two Comics Icons - Despite being two of the biggest names in
comics over the past 20 or so years, Grant Morrison and Jim Lee have only ever worked together once (on an issue of a quickly abandoned Wild C.A.T.S. run. It was a big surprise then, when Lee was announced as the artist for the February issue of Multiversity, focusing on an Earth run by a Nazi Superman called Overman. Whether or not Lee is the best fit for this material can be debated, but what won't be is just how many copies this thing will sell (expect this to be close to if not THE number one selling comic in February).

1:100 Variant cover by GRANT MORRISON
On sale FEBRUARY 18 • 48 pg, FC, $4.99 US • RATED T

Superstar writer Grant Morrison joins legendary artist Jim Lee on Earth-10 for one of the most dynamic, action-packed issues of this entire world-shattering series – THE MULTIVERSITY: MASTERMEN!
Imagine a world where the Nazis not only won World War II but went on to direct world culture for the next 60 years with the help of an orphaned, alien super-weapon known as Overman! But hope is not lost! Rising from the ashes of oppression are a diverse band of heroes raging against the fascist regime – a band of heroes known as THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS!
What nightmarish parallel worlds haunt the dreams of Overman? Who is the mysterious figure called Uncle Sam? And when the dust settles, will the actions of Phantom Lady, Black Condor, Human Bomb, Doll Man and The Ray be enough to stop Leatherwing, Blitzen and the other “heroes” of Earth-X?
Learn all this and more in this exciting issue that acts as chapter seven of the critically acclaimed MULTIVERSITY storyline.

2. Horrorville Concludes In Action Comics - One issue in and I'm kinda digging "Horrorville" so far, which focuses on the newly bearded Superman and a sudden supernatural blight that have overtaken his original adopted home. Pak and Kuder are far
and away my favorite Superman team so far, and once the dull as dirt "Doomed" ended, this arc was my chance to jump back in. Hopefully the ride will last me through to February.

ACTION COMICS #39

Art and cover by AARON KUDER
HARLEY QUINN Variant cover by NICOLA SCOTT and DANNY MIKI
1:25 Variant cover by JUAN JOSE RYP

The terror from Smallville has spread across the globe, and now Superman must make a sacrifice to save it! Don’t miss the final chapter of “Horrorville”!

3. Magog Returns - Magog was the key villain in the now enshrined in comics canon Kingdom Come, since then he's come back a few times to mixed results. The less said about his first reappearance, the better, but Keith Giffen got a nice crack at him when the short-lived Magog series was a thing. Now he's making his first New 52 appearance in the pages of Superman/Wonder Woman, perhaps Peter Tomasi's luck will fare better. Given
that the 90's superhero pastiche that gave birth to Magog is such a thing of the past in this post-Hawkeye landscape, I'm not quite sure how this will work out...

SUPERMAN/WONDER WOMAN #16
Written by PETER J. TOMASI
Art and cover by DOUG MAHNKE and JAIME MENDOZA
HARLEY QUINN Variant cover by FRANCIS MANAPUL
On sale FEBRUARY 11 • 32 pg, FC, $3.99 US • RATED T

This issue is also offered as a combo pack edition with a redemption code for a digital download of this issue.

4. Damian Wayne Has Super-Powers - Damian apparently really does have Kryptonian-like powers, so that's a pretty big twist. I'd rather he stayed dead really, given how great his exit was, but perhaps there's more story here than meets the eye.

BATMAN AND ROBIN #39
Written by PETER J. TOMASI
Art and cover by PATRICK GLEASON and MICK GRAY
HARLEY QUINN Variant cover by EMANUELA LUPACCHINO
On sale FEBRUARY 18 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T
Retailers: This issue will ship with two covers. Please see the order form for more information.
Has Damian Wayne become something more than human? And how do you control a reckless child who now has super powers?

5. Penultimate Issue Of Endgame - Scott Snyder. Batman. Joker. Given how close to the vest DC has played this story and its details even after its initial premise has been unveiled,
its hard to get a firm grasp on just what might be going on in this particular issue, but so far Batman remains the crown jewel of DC's line-up, I doubt much will change by this point.

BATMAN #39

“Endgame” part 5. The Joker is back! The penultimate issue of the Clown Prince of Crime’s horrifying return! Plus, in the backup story, the inmates and Mahreen finally learn the truth about The Joker!
This issue is also offered as a combo pack edition with a redemption code for a digital download of this issue.

6. Batgirl's Enemy Is Revealed - Ya'll, two issues in and I am really digging what Cameron Stewart and Brendan Fletcher are up to with Batgirl, finally giving me an iteration of Barbara that feels more like her own character and less like a pale reflection of Bruce. This issue looks to answer some of the big mysteries of the initial arc, so I'll surely be on board.

BATGIRL #39
Written by CAMERON STEWART and BRENDEN FLETCHER
Art by BABS TARR
Cover by CAMERON STEWART
HARLEY QUINN Variant cover by CLIFF CHIANG
On sale FEBRUARY 11 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T

For months, Batgirl’s been hounded by an unseen threat claiming to be the “real” Batgirl…and the truth of her enemy’s identity will shock her to her very core!

7. Gotham Academy Continues To Be Awesome - An even better Fletcher-written comic, this time with Becky Cloonan. Their heady brew of Lovecraft, Harry Potter and Batman has really just nailed down everything that I never knew that I wanted in a comic. If it wasn't for the above-two series, my DC pull would be sad shape indeed.

GOTHAM ACADEMY #5

Art and cover by KARL KERSCHL
On sale FEBRUARY 4 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T
This month’s assignment: Uncover the hideous secrets of Gotham Academy’s North Hall! Also: smooching?!

8. American Vampire In Area 51 - Nuff said!

Trapped behind the wall, Felicia and Pearl must run from the horrors they find lurking in Area 51. Whether they make it out alive or become test tube experiments may not be up to them. AMERICAN VAMPIRE: SECOND CYCLE continues here!

9. The Filth Gets A Deluxe Edition - One of Grant Morrison's best works gets a deluxe hardcover treatment. I already own this in a trade, but I may spring for this edition just for the glossy paper-stock (the original trade has an awful newspaper print quality). Provided you don't have tender sensibilities, don't sleep on this one folks...fun fact: this story started out as Morrison's take on S.H.I.E.L.D. when he was working at Marvel.

THE FILTH DELUXE EDITION HC

One of Grant Morrison’s most imaginative series features a heady brew of big ideas, exotic locales and bizarre action, starring prosthetically outfitted dolphins in scuba gear and a hard-smoking communist chimpanzee. This deluxe edition collects the entire thirteen-issue series plus bonus materials!

10. I Hear Grayson Is Pretty Good - I mean, that's what I hear, I haven't read it yet for myself though, but it gets #10 on word of mouth alone.
