GeekRecs: Comics Releasing 10/15/14

We know walking into your local comic shop or browsing the new titles on Comixology can be harrowing, particularly with the rising prices of comics. The GeekRex team feels your pain, so that's why each week two members of our team will collaborate and highlight the "must-buys" of every Wednesday, and we'll make sure we keep the tab under 20 bucks. Props to MultiversityComics for coming up with the great idea–we hope you like our spin on it!

This Week's Team: Harper and Shane

Death of Wolverine #4 - $4.99

The short, but epic event detailing the end of Wolverine's life comes to an end this week. Despite being such an obvious attention-grab, the mini-series has actually been quite good between Soule's clever writing and McNiven's gorgeously detailed art and designs. Looking forward to seeing how this one ends!

Fables #145 - $2.99

Last month's Fables featured two jaw-dropping character deaths, leaving readers desperately wanting more.  Many have tried to disparage Fables as of late, saying it is not the comic it once was.  If nothing else, Happily Ever After has proved thus far that Fables' final story arc is going to be just as memorable as the stories which made it a multi-Eisner award winning comic.  After this issue, only five will remain before Fables is done forever.  Get it on this comic now before it's too late.

Batman and Robin #35 - $2.99

It seems like it has been forever since we have had any development on the Robin Rises front (thanks a lot, Futures End month!).  Fortunately that changes this week with the release of the next chapter of the story that promises to reunite Batman with a sidekick.  Whether or not Damian will return to that role is still unknown, but that isn't stopping Batman from journeying to Apokalips to bring him back.  At the very least, this comic is going to be worth the buy for having perhaps the best Monsters variant cover so far this month.

Daredevil #9 - $3.99

We've called in Marvel's most consistent title...and it still is. Last issue saw the beginning of a new arc with the villain Purple Man, and it was super creepy and wonderful. Expect more of the same here by the superteam of Waid and Samnee!

Deadly Class #8 - $3.50

Remender and Craig's tale has grown to be one of my favorite current series, with its stylish design and action and intensely real emotion despite the over-the-top concept. Modeled after 80's John Hughes movies, you'll find yourself falling in love with these teen assassins more than you'd like to admit, I guarantee it.

Total Price: $18.46

Pick of the Week

Daredevil, Vol. 1: Devil at Bay

Have we mentioned how much we love Daredevil? Waid and Samnee brought a new level of fun to the series way back when they relaunched it...and when they relaunched it again here. The seemingly pointless restart to #1 as Matt and Kirsten moved out to San Francisco irritated some, but those complaints were quickly quelled as we got to see Daredevil learn a new city through his super senses, revisit some old enemies (the Owl!), and discover the fate of Foggy Nelson. Also includes the 50th anniversary issue which gives a look into the future of Daredevil. For fans of fun superheroics and absolutely exceptional graphic storytelling, this is a must read!
