Best Covers of the Week, Vol. 24

Super-Merman says, "Check out these great comic book covers, coming out in your local shop this week!"

The Superior Foes of Spider-Man #12
by Ronald Wimberly

Let's start off with a fun one–How great is this! It reminds me of a criterion cover for a Seijun Suzuki film! Great design.

  Doc Savage #6
by John Cassaday

This pick is in no way at all related to Cassaday's Doc Brass in Planetary. But in all seriousness, this is a nice simple cover that manages to be dynamic without a ton of action in it.

  Iron Man #27
by Christian Ward

Gorgeous coloring, and I dig the more metaphysical design. I always appreciate a cover that is more than just a scene from the issue; this one is a beautiful example.

  One-Hit Wonder #3
by Ariel Olivetti

A really striking perspective, and the coloring does a great job of making the living characters pop out compared to the corpses. It's creepy, and the physical acting of the characters presents a story in a way that only good art can.

  Ghost #4
by Ariel Olivetti

Another by Olivetti, this one's use of light and shadow is fantastic. The mostly bland background allows for the silhouette shadow to provide an extra level of depth.

  Loki: Agent of Asgard #5
by Jenny Frison

Really nice facial work here, and Frison always has such a smooth, sensuous shading style that makes for an extremely intriguing cover.

  The Woods #2
by Ramon Perez

Much like the first issue's cover, the outrageous coloring here takes center stage and is totally unique. I also love the title design with the slight italic slant that sets the mood very nicely.

Whew! That's it for this week. What did I miss? Let me know on Twitter or Facebook!
