Best Covers of the Week, Vol. 23: Giant Sized!

There were so many great covers this week, my head literally exploded into a thousand bats! Well, not really. But enough to warrant a special GIANT SIZED version of Best Covers of the Week!

Dead Boy Detectives #6
by Mark Buckingham

I really love the dizzying perspective on this cover. Without showing the ground underneath, we really get a sense of fatal action.

 The Twilight Zone #5
by Francesco Francavilla

This is a killer one by one of our regulars. The blue and orange make a nice contrast, and this is one of Francavilla's best close-ups and designs.

The Flash #31 // Justice League Dark #31
by Mike Allred

A double feature by another of our favorites, as part of DC's Batman '66 month. The Flash cover is endlessly fun and visually exciting, and the JLD "Glub" makes me smile every time.

Ms. Marvel #4
by Jamie McKelvie

There's so much dynamic movement in this one, and fantastic eye-popping color. Great play with the perspective and Kamala's shapeshifting powers too!

    Mind MGMT #22
by Matt Kindt

Maybe my favorite cover of the week. Based on Magritte's famous painting, it's an elegantly simple illustration with complex ideas that tie to the book's themes of suggestion and deception. Brilliant!

    Sex #13
by Piotr Kowalski

I really like that they've stuck with the two-page spread covers on Sex. It allows for a bit of graphic storytelling; you see Annabelle in a provocative pose, then upon unfolding to see the back you see the superhero mask. I have to mention, too, the awesome fact that they change up the logo text on every issue!

  Halo: Escalation #6
by Sparth

I was struck by the painterly but detailed beauty in this one. Certainly makes me want to dust off my Halo games...

  Brass Sun #1
by I. N. J. Culbard

Intricate design with a fairly simplistic illustration make for a nice cover with a lot of child-like awe.

  Chew/Revival #1
by Rob Guillory // Jenny Frison

This is too bizarre/awesome not to include! I love both artists' interpretations!

  Deadly Class #5
by Wesley Craig

Very nice design and color, and goes very well with what's going on in the book right now.

 Trees #1
by Jason Howard

Clever design that, along with the title and the ominous red sky, visually hints at the concept of the book.
Samurai Jack #8
by Antonio Fuso

Transforming the minimal cartooning of the original design into a more realistic Japanese style with nicely drafted futuristic backgrounds makes this a great cover to wrap up on!

Whew! That's it for this week. What did I miss? Let me know on Twitter or Facebook!
