Paul Rudd has entered negotiations to star in Ant-Man

As we reported previously, Edgar Wright and his team had narrowed down their casting choices for the lead in the Marvel Studios Phase 3 Header Ant-Man to Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd. As Levitt has turned his attention to The Sandman at Warner Bros, Rudd has entered into negotiations for the lead role of Hank Pym according to The Wrap.

The Wrap's source particularly notes how slim Rudd appeared in his recent SNL guest appearance, which has been attributed to a training regiment for the role.

Marvel's Phase 3 has been a bit of a question mark, as its biggest draw, Robert Downey Jr, will not be returning for further Iron Man films. The casting of Rudd is a strong choice to inject the line with what is hopefully a replacement box-office draw of a sort.

Needless to say, I'm a big, big fan of this move.

Ant-Man, directed by Edgar Wright, will open July 31, 2015.
