Marvel on the verge of casting Ant-Man?

Via our friends at Indiewire/The Playlist

Marvel Studios is apparently on the verge of making a decision regarding the casting of the lead role in Edgar Wright's Ant-Man (reportedly that of Henry Pym, not Scott Lang) and it's down to Paul Rudd or Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

They're remarkably different actors, so it seems to depend on which direction Marvel is shooting for. Levitt sounds more like the studio's choice (he was up for the role of Star Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy as well), while Rudd is more something that sounds like Edgar Wright's sensibilities.

A third actor could still appear out of nowhere and snag the role, but as Marvel is on the verge of attempting to replace Robert Downey Jr's very popular Iron Man with a new face of the Marvel cinematic universe, either would be an intriguing way to go.

There's even a little bit of thematic unity here for Levitt were he to be cast, as Christopher's Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy was the most recent superhero film with "auteur vision", and he never got to suit up as Batman by its conclusion. Wright's Ant-Man could somewhat pick up the torch in that area.

We'll know something soon. Ant-Man opens July 25, 2015.
