Geek Recs - Week of 6/19 - 6/25

Here are our top five geek pop culture recommendations for the upcoming weekend:

1. "The Ocean at the End of the Lane" by Neil Gaiman - Technically this came out on Tuesday, but we're counting it in this week's to-do list because Gaiman will be in our home town of Atlanta for a reading and book signing on Saturday. From the author of Sandman and American Gods comes a new novel, a story of a 7-year-old boy who stumbles upon a dark, supernatural secret in his neighborhood.

2. World War Z - Sure, it's another zombie movie. But it has Brad Pitt. And zombies piling on each other like ants. And stop judging us, OK? It looks fun!

3. Monsters University - There's not a lot releasing this weekend, but this would be our second pick behind World War Z, assuming you're a fan of these types of movies.

4. Mad Men season finale - What's up with Bob Benson? Is he a serial killer? A corporate spy? Just some crazy guy? We hope to find out on Sunday's finale.

5. No - Releasing on DVD 6/25, No is the gripping (and true) retelling of a man hired to create an advertising campaign powerful enough to bring down Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet. Gael Garcia Bernal shines as the story's protagonist, and the film uses real snippets from the '80s ad campaign to tell the story. The director uses a gritty, low-quality look to blend in old footage with new, and we think the gamble paid off nicely in creating a smart and stylish film.
