Geek Recs - Week of May 26

This week appears to be pretty quiet on the movie/video game/DVD release front! Below please find our top five geek recommendations for the week of 5/26 - June 1.

1. Arrested Development: Unless you've been hiding under a rock, far away from the reaches of pop culture, this one is no shocker. At midnight on 5/26, Netflix dropped all fifteen episodes of the show into its streaming library, allowing many of us to honor our veterans by making corn balls and Bluth frozen bananas for our viewing parties.

2. Behind the Candelbra: Also released on 5/26, this movie is Steven Soderbergh's self-acclaimed last directorial gig. The Liberace biopic garnered 2.4 million viewers for HBO, breaking records for the network, and stars Michael Douglas, Matt Damon, and Rob Lowe, to name a few.

3. Doctor Who DVD Release: Although many fans accidentally received their DVDs early last week, the official release date for the most recent Christmas Special and Series 7, Part 2 of Doctor Who was 5/28. The second half of series 7 was one of our favorites, so we're definitely picking this up.

4. Earth-2 Annual #1: Of all the comics in DC's New 52, few have been nearly as consistent as Earth-2.  James Robinson has been able to craft an ever-expanding universe which hits all the right notes in terms of character development and action.  Sadly, Robinson's run is ending, but not before he gives us the comic's first annual, which promises the reveal of Earth-2's new Batman!  Releases 5/29,

5. The East - Slated for limited release on 5/31, The East is an espionage thriller starring Ellen Page and Alexander Skarsgard. Brit Marling, who gained fame for her script for Another Earth, both wrote and co-stars in the political thriller. Please note this is labeled as limited release, so it may or may not be in your local theater this weekend.
