FF #3: A Review

I won't lie. In my eyes, Matt Fraction can almost do no wrong (I haven't read Fear Itself yet, so that's why I said almost) and I have to say that I was very apprehensive going into FF.

Jonathan Hickman, the previous writer, had made both Fantastic Four, and it's sister title FF very, very dense and that put me off completely. Fraction and Allred coming in and taking over the FF title really was a breath of fresh air.

For those not following the book, the Fantastic Four have journeyed to find a fix for the problems they are encountering with their powers for what should be 4 minutes in our time, but a year in theirs. Four minutes. What could go wrong in 4 minutes right?

Well, being someone who can't help but plan for the worst, Reed gets a replacement team to protect the Earth while they are gone. Who better than Ant-Man (Scott Lang), She-Hulk, Medusa and Darla Deering who is going by the name Ms Thing.

In this issue, an older and weathered Johnny Storm tells the FF that Kang, Doom and Annihilus have formed an unholy union and the Fantastic Four are dead.

Fraction handles the emotion that comes from Storm's reveal with wonderful gravitas and the plan that Scott Lang comes up with at the end of the issue to save the Fantastic Four is something that Reed would never have done, but you or I would have jumped at the chance to do. It's based in reality. I won't spoil it for you because it's really a great, fun read.

Allred on the art for this book was an amazing choice. The flow and color really pops off the page. I really can't wait to see where this book goes.

FF, You get a BB...I mean a B. A nice, solid B.
